For former Kings Mill employee Corrin Howard, what began as a high school job quickly became the foundation for a career in the golf industry. From the cart crew to the pro shop, her time at Kings Mill helped shape the skills, relationships, and passion that now guide her work with the Michigan Section PGA.
She began working at Kings Mill in the spring of 2019 while she was a member of the River Valley High School golf team. Starting on the cart crew before later joining the pro shop team, she gained experience in many areas of golf course operations while discovering that her passion for the game extended beyond playing.
“The people that golf has given me the opportunity to meet is what my love for this game boils down to,” she says. “I’ve met inspiring people, lifelong friends, and mentors, all because of golf.”
Working at Kings Mill taught her the importance of exceptional customer service, teamwork, and communication. She credits the staff and mentors she worked alongside with showing her that every golfer is more than just another customer.
“Any regular at Kings Mill knows they aren’t just another customer,” she says. “They’re a familiar face with a name and a story of their own.”
After leaving Kings Mill in 2021, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Sports Marketing & Management from the University of Northwestern Ohio while completing internships at several major sporting events, including the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, The Masters Tournament, the NCAA Men’s Final Four, and Super Bowl LVIII.
Today, she works for the Michigan Section PGA, where she is transitioning into the role of Membership Services Administrator. There, she supports PGA Professionals throughout Michigan by managing membership services, education requirements, tournament eligibility, and professional development.
When asked about her favorite Kings Mill memory, she recalls a conversation with Linda, Lois, Angie and a golfer before leaving for college. Sensing her uncertainty about the future, he offered a piece of advice that has stayed with her ever since:
“If you have a genuine passion for what you do, you will never truly work a day in your life.”
Before leaving, he handed her a Masters divot tool and asked her to pass it along when the time felt right. She has carried it through every internship and tournament since, including while walking the grounds of Augusta National during her time working at The Masters.
Looking ahead, she plans to continue growing with the Michigan Section PGA while following the same passion that first drew her to golf: helping others through the game. Her journey is a reminder that a summer job at Kings Mill can become the first step toward a lifelong career.
